ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern softball team will make the short trek down Snelling to compete in their first round NCAA regional game against No. 4 St. Thomas this week. The Eagles – making their second straight NCAA appearance – will square off with host UST in Thursday's second game slated for 4:30 p.m. The four-team, double-elimination regional will also feature UW-Eau Claire and Wartburg.

The Eagles captured the UMAC Tournament crown for the second straight year over the weekend, cruising through the three-day tournament undefeated (as the #4 seed). UNW outscored its foes 20-6 and will face St. Thomas in the opening round of NCAA regionals for the second straight season. UST – winners of the MIAC – defeated Hamline in an 11 inning (1-0) battle on Sunday. The fourth-ranked Tommies are making their 16th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. UNW went up 1-0 early against the Tommies in last season's regional before falling 9-1.
