ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team took down the North Central Rams today at Johnson Courts, cruising to a 9-0 victory. The win moves the Eagles to 11-9 on the season and keeps them perfect in UMAC play.
Northwestern got off to a fast start in doubles, taking all three matches. The team dropped just two total games across the three matches as the number two team tandem of Shawna Spears (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) went unblemished (8-0) in their win.
UNW continued their solid play across singles action, securing all six matches via straight set victories. Nikki Paskewitz (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley), Rachel Lukkarila (Becker, Minn./Homeschool) and Gracie LeBrun (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) were all flawless in their straight sets wins at the one, four and five positions, respectively.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to the courts tomorrow, to finish their match with Bethany Lutheran that began Wednesday night (but was postponed due to rain). Fans can head to unweagles.com to stay up to date with UNW Women's Tennis.
