ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team took down the North Central Rams this evening at Johnson Courts, cruising to an 8-1 victory. The win moves the Eagles to 9-8 on the season.
UNW got off to a fast start in doubles play, taking all three matches. The no. 2 team of Sierra Kargbo (Woodbury, Minn./Tartan) and Bridget Zappe (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and no. 3 team of Ashlyn Huges and Angel Beaufeaux (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin), were both especially efficient in their victories, each winning by an 8-2 score.
Northwestern continued its solid play across singles action, securing wins in five of the six matches. Mafee Rinta (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) (7-6, 6-3) and Jessica Gross (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) (7-5, 6-4) picked up tight victories in the one and three positions, while Kargbo (6-3, 6-1) and Beaufeaux (6-1, 6-0) picked up their second wins of the day at the four and six spots.
