Eagles Come Up Short Against Washington College

Washington College continued their hot start to move to 8-0 as they defeated Northwestern (3-2) 13-2 on Tuesday night in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Shoremen took advantage of a number of Northwestern defensive miscues and the power of the long ball as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead mid-way through the sixth inning.  They hit four home runs on the day and powered their way to a lead that they did not relinquish.

Northwestern added a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth as Bradley Spencer (Papillion, Neb./Papillion South) hit a sacrifice fly to score Guerin Szafraniec (Brighton, Colo./Brighton).  Szafraniec also contributed to the scoring in the seventh as he reached on a fielder's choice which scored Caleb Piersma (Pella, Iowa/Pella).  Washington added four more runs in the eighth and ninth to complete the scoring.

Chad Wakabayashi (Waipahu, Hawaii/Hanalani) got the start on the mound and gave up six earned in four innings of work.  Dylan Ramberg (Harris, Minn./North Branch) came in in relief mid-way through the fourth inning and he got 12 outs before Payton Brown (Elk River, Minn./PACT Charter) made his collegiate debut and got the final three.

Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) led the way for the Eagles at the dish as he continued his hot hitting to bring his on-base percentage to .609 after five games.  He reached base in three of his five plate appearances and hit his third double of the season.  Tyler Stopera (St. Anthony Village, Minn./St. Anthony Village) added a double of his own in his second start of the season and Guerin Szafraniec (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) and Sam Peterson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) both reached base twice.

The Eagles next play on Thursday, March 14 at 1:30 versus Cairn University on Field One at the Lawnwood Sports Complex.
