Men's Basketball Clinches UMAC Championship, Cruising to 88-65 Win over Morris

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's hoops team welcomed Minnesota-Morris to the Ericksen Center for the Eagles final regular season match-up at home. Northwestern recorded its 12th straight win as six players scored in double-figures. With the 88-65 victory and a 14-1 conference record, the Eagles clinched the UMAC regular season title outright. This marks Northwestern's 28th title in program history.
 
After a tight first half, Northwestern held a three-point lead (39-36) heading into the second. The Eagles' offense started to groove as the team combined to shoot over 51% from the field, featuring 10 players scoring and 14 seeing the court. Northwestern's largest lead (24) came with just over three minutes remaining in the contest.

The Eagles committed just eight turnovers and outrebounded the Cougars, 41-28.
 
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) led the squad, scoring 17 points to cap off a memorable senior night.
 
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) added 14 points for the Eagles and dished out four assists. Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) added 12 points on the night and pulled down 14 rebounds. Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) tacked on 11, while Brady Bellefeuille (Frazee, Minn./Frazee) and Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) each added 10.
 
All five seniors who were honored prior to tonight's contest scored. Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City), Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan), Noah Hill (Denton, Tex.), Colton Simmer (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and Brady Bellefeuille (Frazee, Minn./Frazee) have left their make on the Eagles basketball program. Hageman, Bazile, Simmer and Bellefeuille – all four-year members of the UNW team, have been a part of two NCAA National Tournaments, four Upper Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs and have earned two UMAC Conference titles. Noah Hill (Denton, Tex.) joined the squad this season and has been a part of UNW's historic journey to winning 11 straight games and a regular season UMAC title.
 
With the win, Northwestern improves to 18-6 overall, 14-1 in the UMAC. Morris falls to 9-15, 6-9 in conference play this season.
 
With one game left in conference play, the final four tournament seeds have yet to be determined. Northwestern will host a semifinal game Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Ericksen Center against the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 quarterfinal game on Monday. Northwestern will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 for their final regular season contest when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther.
