Men's Hoops Downs Martin Luther to Record 13th Straight Win in Regular Season Finale

NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team closed out the 2018-19 regular season with its 13th straight win. The Eagles downed Martin Luther College, 104-55 as five UNW players scored in double-figures and Northwestern shot nearly 64% from the field in first half action. The Eagles enter playoff competition with a 15-1 UMAC record – its best since the 2014-15 season.
 
Despite leading by just one point (23-22) midway through the first half, Northwestern went on a wild run, draining eight three-pointers to secure a 20-point lead at the half. Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) led the first half surge, scoring 12 points on five of six shooting from the field.
 
The Eagles continued to pull away in the second, scoring another 52 points while holding the Knights to just 23 and a 25% field goal percentage.
 
In typical Northwestern fashion, five players scored in double figures led by Youngberg with 14. The junior forward has the second highest field goal percentage in the UMAC this season, shooting 54%. Johnny Erickson (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) added 13 on the night after connecting on six of seven shot attempts.
 
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) tacked on 12 points and seven assists. Moore leads the conference in passing efficiency with 106 assists on the year and a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio.
 
Brady Peterson (Princeton, Minn./Homeschool) also dished out seven assists in the contest in addition to recording 10 points. Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) was the fifth and final Eagle to reach double-digit scoring, tacking on 11 points.
 
Northwestern committed just eight turnovers, scored 46 points in the paint and added 51 bench points. 14 players saw action in the contest.
 
The Eagles enter UMAC Playoff competition with a 19-6 overall record and will host a seminifnal game on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Ericksen Center. As the No. 1 seed, Northwestern is positioned to host throughout the tournament as they hunt for an eighth trip to the NCAA postseason in the last nine years.
