NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hit the road to take on Martin Luther College in Saturday night UMAC action. The Eagles put together a dominant first quarter, going up 17-9 and never lost their momentum. UNW rolled to a 75-52 final win.
Northwestern improves to 4-5 on the year and 2-0 in the UMAC. Martin Luther falls to 0-9 this season (0-2 in league play). The win marked the Eagles 13th straight over the Knights.
With the help of an 8-0 run, UNW jumped out to an early lead over Martin Luther. The Eagles shot 50% from the field in the first half and connected on nine three-pointers in the contest to hold off the Knights.
Northwestern took care of the ball the best they have all season, committing just 12 turnovers to Martin Luther's 21. Three Eagles recorded double-digit point totals led by
Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) with 16. Lund drained three of six shots from beyond the arc and seven of eight free throw attempts. The sophomore has the second most (3-point) makes in the UMAC this season with 25.
Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) and
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) each tacked on 13 points. Landers and
Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) pulled down a team-best seven boards, while
Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) grabbed five steals in the game.
Northwestern will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 11 when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran College. Tipoff is slated for 7:15 p.m. against the Vikings – who were picked to finish first in the UMAC Preseason Coaches' poll. Follow the Eagles online all season long at
