Women's Hoops Cruises to 76-36 Conference Opener Win Over Crown

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team welcomed Crown College to the Ericksen Center for Wednesday night Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The Eagles shot over 50% from the field and held the Storm to single digit scoring in three quarters to cruise to a 76-36 win. 
 
Northwestern improves to 3-5 on the year, 1-0 in the UMAC. The Storm falls to 2-5 overall (0-1). The Eagles are 73-3 all-time against Crown, dating back to 1992.
 
UNW set the tone early, outscoring the Storm 18-6 after first quarter action. The Eagles shot an impressive 47% from the field and held Crown to just 3-of-14 shooting. UNW continued to control the game in second quarter play, scoring 15 more points to lead 33-14 at the half. Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) put together a strong start, draining three shots from beyond the arc for a team-best 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.
 
Despite Crown putting together their highest scoring quarter in the third (13 points), the Eagles stayed hot – shooting a game-best 64% from the field to tack on 21 points. UNW led by as much as 27 points with 40 seconds remaining in the third. The Eagles continued to dominate offensively, sparked by a career night from Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian). The sophomore finished with 23 points on eight of 11 shooting. 

Hailey Paup (North Oaks, Minn./Concordia Academy) also tacked on a career-best, 12 point performance. Paup pulled down six boards and added three blocks on the night. Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) finished with 15 points, making three shots from beyond the arc. The guard also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) dished out a team-best four assists.
 
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther College. Tipoff is slated for 4:45 p.m.
