Men's Hoops Earns 87-82 Win Over Wisconsin Lutheran

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed Wisconsin Lutheran College to the Ericksen Center for a Saturday afternoon tilt. After suffering a one-point loss to MSOE in Friday night play, the Eagles were determined to respond with a win over the Warriors. Northwestern overcame a second-half battle to secure an 87-82 win.

The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the year as WLC also moves to 1-1 this season, their win coming against North Central. This marked just the second time Northwestern has matched-up with Wisconsin Lutheran in program history and UNW's first win over the Warriors.

The Eagles showcased consistent offense in the first half, shooting nearly 40% from the field while knocking down five shots from beyond the arc. UNW held a 41-32 lead at intermission, but the Warriors would pull within as little as two points (76-74) in a second half battle.

With just under two minutes to play, Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) drained a three-pointer from Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) to put Northwestern back up by five. The Eagles would connect on six of seven free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.

Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) led all players with 24 points. Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) and Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) also recorded double-digit point totals with 18, 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Youngberg recorded his first double-double of the year, tacking on 17 rebounds to his 14 points. He dished out a team-best six assists. Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) also posted a double-double, pulling down 13 boards. Johnny Erickson (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) added five assists on the day.

The Eagles shot 41% from the field and 75% from the line. They outscored WLC in the paint, 40-34.

Northwestern will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 13 when they travel down Snelling to take on Macalester College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. against the Scots.
