ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season, matching up with MIAC opponent, Macalester. After falling to the Scots in a close contest last season, the Eagles cruised to a 94-69 win Tuesday night – outscoring Macalester by 20 in the second half.
Northwestern improves to 2-1 this season, while the Scots fall to 1-2 on the year.
The Eagles shot 40% from the field to lead by five at the half. UNW put together an impressive final 20 minutes – shooting 64% from the field and 67% from three-point range to take over. Northwestern's largest lead of the game (26) came with just under two minutes remaining.
11 UNW players saw action in tonight's contest as
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) led the squad with 20 points on the night. Moore was 8-for-17 from the field including three of six from beyond the arc. The sophomore guard also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and dished out five assists.
Three more Eagles recorded double-digit scoring in the win including
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) with 18 points and seven boards;
Noah Alm (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) with 18 points and
Solomon Bach (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) with 16 on the night.
Northwestern scored 46 points in the paint to Macalester's 30. Jackson Henningfield led the Scots with 15 points and five boards.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they welcome Gustavus Adolphus to the Ericksen Center. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. against the Gusties.
