Eagles Sweep UMAC Volleyball Player of the Week Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Monday afternoon. The University of Northwestern swept the volleyball awards as Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian), Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) and Anna Gasch (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) all were honored for standout performances last week.

Junior outside hitter, Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian), was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week nod, while Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) picked up the Setter of the Week award and Anna Gasch (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) came away with the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) earns the award for the second time this season, while Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) tacks on her fourth Setter of the Week award and Gasch picks up her second straight (last week earning the offensive award).

Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) -- Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
The junior recorded 39 kills in 12 sets played last week, averaging 3.25 kills/set. Schwitters posted double-digit dig totals in all three matches averaging 4.33 digs/set. She recorded 13 kills and a .370 average in UNW's sweep over Morris to secure the UMAC Playoffs #1 seed enroute to a share of the regular season title. Kalley also added four aces and five blocks on the week.

Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) -- Volleyball Setter of the Week
The sophomore setter dished out 135 assists in 12 sets played last week, averaging 11.25 assists/set. She added two double-doubles with 30 combined digs (2.5/set). Sydney was on fire in UNW's four set win over Cornell, handing out 54 assists. She added five service aces and eight kills on the week.

Anna Gasch (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) -- Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
The senior was dominant defensively at the net, recording six blocks in UNW's sweep over Morris to secure the UMAC playoffs #1 seed and a share of the regular season title. Gasch had 16 blocks on the week, averaging 1.33/set. She also added 23 kills (including eight against Morris with a .368 average). Gasch leads the UMAC in blocking this season.

The Eagles have clinched the No. 1 seed in the UMAC postseason tournament and will host a semifinal match next Wednesday, November 6 in St. Paul against the winner of the quarterfinal match (no. 4 University of Wisconsin-Superior vs. no. 5 Bethany Lutheran).
