ST. PAUL, MINN. – The UNW men's soccer team hosted Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent Minnesota-Morris Cougars in a mid-week matchup. This was the 27th all-time matchup between the two programs, with the Cougars leading the series 9-14-3 coming into this afternoon. Northwestern was able pick up the win against Minnesota-Morris by a final score of 2-0 to improve in the series.
The Eagles controlled the first half of play, amassing 12 and holding the Cougars to zero shots.
Taylor Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) was able to net the first goal of the contest, scoring off of a free kick from 25 yards out to give UNW the 1-0 advantage. The Northwestern defense would hold strong the remainder of the period, maintaining their one goal lead going into the break.
Northwestern continued their offensive attack in the second frame, totaling an additional 12 shots. Modaff notched his second goal of the contest just five minutes into second half, coming off of a pass from
Isaiah Sharp (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial). The UNW team would hold on to their 2-0 lead the remainder of the contest to pick up their first conference win.
Aidan Lynch (Glendora, Calif./Western Christian) tallied three saves in his first shutout of the season.
