Men’s Soccer Falls in Conference Opener

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team opened up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, hosting the St. Scholastica Saints on a drizzling Saturday afternoon. The Saints are able to get the upper-hand in the matchup, winning by a final score of 3-0. With the loss, UNW moves to 1-9-1 overall, and 0-1-0 in UMAC contests.

Both offenses were attacking early on in the contest, with each team tallying 11 shots in the opening frame. It appeared that both teams were going to be held scoreless in the first half, until the Saints were able to net a goal in the 35th minute. The Eagles would try to muster up a late goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The offensive woes continued in the second half, as UNW was blanked in the scoring column yet again. Scholastica, however, was able to net their two second half goals just five minutes apart. Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) led the offensive attack with six shots.

The Eagles will host Carleton College on Monday, October 7 for their next contest. For all things Northwestern soccer, fans can follow @unwmsoc on Twitter and Instagram and visit www.unweagles.com.
