ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team hosted the Crown College Storm on senior day, where five seniors were recognized for their time and contribution to the UNW soccer program in their last home contest of the season. The two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) teams have met a total of 62 times over the years going into this matchup, with the Eagles having the 36-24-2 advantage overall.
These programs met earlier this season in a non-conference game with Crown pulling out the 1-0 win, but that was not the case this afternoon. Northwestern defeated the Storm by a final score of 3-0.
Tim Meyer (Ashland, Wis./Ashland High School) struck first for the Eagles just over five minutes into the game, finding the back of the net off a
Samuel Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Central) cross from the left side of the field. Northwestern continued their attack by totaling six more shots in the half, including two that would ricochet off the post back into play. The UNW defense faced three shots from the Storm, fending all of them off. Northwestern had the 1-0 advantage going into intermission.
The Eagles continued their offensive attack into the second frame of play, scoring two goals within two minutes of each other. In the 55th minute,
Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn) extended the UNW lead by scoring off of an assist from
Taylor Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello). Just two minutes later,
Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) centered a ball to
Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) who would score to move the score to 3-0.
Northwestern will face Bethany Lutheran next week October, 29 for their last regular season contest. Fans can keep up with UNW soccer by following @unwmsoc on Instagram and Twitter and by visiting www.unweagles.com.
