MANKATO, MINN. – The UNW men's soccer team traveled south to take on the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College in their last regular season contest on Tuesday evening. Northwestern sought to avenge their 2-5 loss to Bethany Lutheran from earlier this season, to pick up a much needed Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win. The offense of BLC was too much to overcome, however, as the Eagles are defeated by a final score of 6-3.
The Vikings did not waste any time getting their offense going, scoring three goals in the first 10 minute span to jump out to the early lead. Northwestern was able to get into the scoring column minutes later, with
Aspen Galdamez (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) scoring off of an assist from
Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover). Bethany Lutheran was not done there, as they would score their fourth goal of the opening half to take the 4-1 lead into intermission.
The Eagles came back with a second-half surge, as
Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) scored a goal for UNW from a
Samuel Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Central) pass just minutes into the period. It appeared as if Northwestern had a glimmer of hope by pulling within one goal, with
Isaiah Sharp (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) netting an unassisted goal to make the score 3-4. The Bethany offense was too much to handle, scoring the final two goals.
Northwestern finishes their season with an overall record of 4-14-1 and a UMAC record of 3-5-0. As a team, the Eagles put up 24 goals on the season, with 17 assists to boot. They boasted 18.1 shots per game, with a shots on goal percentage of 40.8.
