Men’s Soccer’s Two Game Win Streak Cut Short by Lumberjacks Tuesday Afternoon

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The UNW men's soccer team's two-game win streak was cut down by the Lumberjacks of Northland College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lumberjacks were able to come away with the victory in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup, winning by a final score of 1-0. This was the 48th matchup between the two programs, with the all-time record now at 31-16-2 in favor or UNW.

Northwestern was in control for the majority of the first half, with 60% of the possession in the first 45 minutes of play. There were opportunities for UNW to score, as they tallied five shots-on-goal on nine shots in that time span. The UNW defense held Northland to only two shots. The Lumberjack defense stood strong, saving all Eagle shots to hold the game scoreless going into halftime.

The Eagles would tally an additional eight shots in the second half to Northland's three. The Lumberjacks, however, would capitalize one of those shots, scoring in the 73rd minute to take the 1-0 lead. The UNW team did not give up, as they continued to attack offensively to no avail. Aspen Galdamez (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) each totaled two shots on goal, respectively, to lead the Eagle attack.

The Northwestern squad will travel to New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther this Saturday, October 19. For all things UNW soccer, fans can visit www.unweagles.com and follow @unwmsoc on Twitter and Instagram.
