ST. PAUL, MINN. – The UNW men's soccer team hosted the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran in a rainy Tuesday evening contest. The normal Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) teams competed in a non-conference matchup, with the Vikings coming out on top by a final score of 5-2. Northwestern drops to 1-8-1 on the season with the loss.
Bethany Lutheran did not waste any time with their offense, getting the game started with a goal just minutes into the game. The Vikings were able to net goals midway through the opening half and just four minutes before halftime to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
Northwestern was able to capitalize early on in the second half, with
Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) netting a goal just over 30 seconds into the period. Aminga would score another goal shortly after to pull the Eagles within two in the 52nd minute. The UNW defense held the Vikings off as long as possible, but BLC was able to find the back of the net one last time to reach the final score of 5-2.
The UNW squad will kick off conference play this weekend, hosting St. Scholastica Saturday, October 5. For all things Eagle soccer, fans can follow @unwmsoc on Twitter and Instagram and visiting www.unweagles.com.
