ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team hosted the Viterbo University V-Hawks (1-6-1, 0-0-0 NSAA) of La Crosse, Wis. in a mid-season non-conference match. With the 2-0 victory, the Eagles move to 3-5-0 overall, and remain at 1-3-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
In the opening frame, the Eagles outshot the V-Hawks four to two in shots on goal, and six to three in total shots. Sophomore midfielder,
Miguel Martinez-Urrutia (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) found the back of the net off of a
Tyler McGeough (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) assist for Northwestern with less than 10 minutes in the half. The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Northwestern continued their attack in the second half, adding 12 more shots and eight shots on goal. The Eagles were able to tally another goal from a
Tyler Hurley (Bloomington, Minn./Eden Prairie) cross, leading to a
Corbin Munger (Austin, Minn./Austin) header. Defensively for UNW,
Aidan Lynch (Glendora, Calif./Western Christian) recorded four saves and a shutout in net.
The Eagles will travel to St. Scholastica on Saturday, September 28 to take on the Saints for the second time this season. For more information fans can visit
