Eagles Unable to Overpower Yellowjackets in Overtime

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Northwestern – St. Paul men's soccer team (2-5-0, 1-3-0 UMAC) fell against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent, University of Wisconsin-Superior (6-2-1, 2-0-1 UMAC) with a final score of 1-2 in overtime.

During the first half, Northwestern put up a solid performance on the defensive end. The Eagles saw 15 shots (7 SOG) but held the Yellowjackets to a scoreless first half.

Throughout the second half, a similar performance was pieced together. Shots came from both sides, but neither team found much success. The Yellowjackets scored with five minutes left in the half. The Eagles were quick to respond two minutes later as Tyler Hurley (Bloomington, Minn./Eden Prairie) buried one from a penalty kick. The contest went into overtime with the 1-1 tie at the end of the second half.

Despite tough defensive efforts, Northwestern was unable to score first, and UW-Superior ended the match with a goal.

Stat leaders on the contest were Hurley (2 S, 2 SOG, 1 G) and Aidan Lynch (Glendora, Calif./Western Christian), who tallied eight saves on the day.
