ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 UMAC) traveled down Snelling Avenue to take on Bethel University (1-0, 0-0 MIAC), where they fell by a final score 1-0 in overtime.
The first half was an even match both ways, with the game being scoreless heading into the halftime break. Bethel had the 4-1 edge in shots, but the Northwestern defense held strong without breaking.
The second half was much like the first with both teams getting shots-on-goal, but failing to find the back of the net. Bethel was able to secure the win, scoring the golden-goal less than ten minutes into the overtime period.
Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) and Miguel Martinez-Urrita led the offensive attack for the Eagles, each getting a shot-on-goal. Defensively,
Austin Gunkel (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) tallied four saves for the Eagle backfield.
Northwestern will take on St. Olaf Saturday, Sept. 1 in their next contest. For more information, fans can visit
