SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Superior (6-17, 4-10 UMAC) Wednesday for an afternoon conference matchup, where they fell to the home Yellowjackets by a final score of 72-65. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 11-11 on the season and 9-4 in UMAC play.
The opening frame was an even bout between the two squads. Though the halftime lead, 32-28, did not fall in Northwestern's possession, the Eagles managed to shoot an impressive 48.3 percent from the field, while the Yellowjackets sank 50 percent of their shots from the floor.
The second half action was tight, with UNW chasing after UWS the entire period. The home Yellowjackets never lost the lead from the 17:27 mark on, allowing them to secure the victory over the Eagles, 72-65.
On the contest, Northwestern shot 42.9 percent from the hardwood, while also hitting 13-of-17 (76.5%) shots from the charity stripe. As a team, the squad also finished the game with 28 rebounds (11 OFF, 17 DEF), 11 assists, and nine steals.
Three Eagles tallied double digits on the game, as Sophomore
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) led all scorers with 20 points. Senior
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) also had a solid performance as he poured in 12 points, while
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) totaled 10 points, respectively.
