ASHLAND, WIS. - The University of Northwestern women's basketball team came up short on Saturday, falling to Northland College by a score of 52-45 across the border in Wisconsin. As a result, the Eagles fall to 11-10 overall and 7-5 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Northland improved to 3-18 overall and 1-11 in the UMAC.
The Lumberjills used a strong first quarter to distance themselves early, leading 13-3 after the first quarter, and never looked back. Northwestern made a fourth quarter push, outscoring Northland 19-15 in the frame, but ultimately ran out of time. The Lumberjills secured the home victory, 52-45, over the visiting Eagles.
Taryn Tumbleson led the way for UNW, dropping 12 points and blocking three shots. Freshman
Jordan Sauve (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) continued her strong play as of late, contributing nine points off the bench. Despite the loss, there was some good news for the Eagles, as standout
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) made her return to the court from injury, coming off the bench to score five points and snare nine rebounds.
