ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team secured a 74-59 victory over Martin Luther College (4-21, 2-14 UMAC) in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon inside the Ericksen Center. With the win, UNW finishes the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-5 in league play. The afternoon contest was also deemed senior day, as the team celebrated its two outstanding upperclassman –
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) and
Josh Bagley (Ackley, Iowa/AGWSR).
After taking a 33-28 lead into the halftime break, the Eagles kept their feet on the gas the entire second period to tally the afternoon win, 74-59, over the visiting Knights.
Junior
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led all scorers with 16 points, while also grabbing four boards and logging three assists on the game. Senior
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) [14 pts] and Sophomore
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) [11 pts] we the only other to Eagles to hit double digits, while Freshman
Johnny Erickson (Minneapolis, Minn./Hope Academy) followed suit with nine. Youngberg also snatched nine rebounds, respectively.
On the contest, UNW shot 45.6 percent from the field and just over 42 percent from long range, while MLC finished by hitting nearly 40 percent from the floor.
The Eagles locked down the No. 3 seed heading into next week's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference [UMAC] post-season tournament.
