UNW Unable to Hold Off Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team was unable to hold onto a first half lead against the University of Minnesota Morris (10-10, 12-4 UMAC) on Wednesday night. The Eagles fell to the Cougars by a final score of 52-49. With the loss, UNW drops to 12-12 on the season and 8-7 in UMAC play.

Northwestern started out strong, outscoring UMM 15-12 in the first frame and building a 31-28 lead at the half. The Eagles shot 36 percent in the first half, while the Cougars had a shooting percentage of 30.8 from the floor.

In the third period, Minnesota Morris came back strong and took the lead by outscoring UNW, 15-9. The Cougars then continued to add to their lead in the fourth quarter, holding off a UNW rally and securing the victory, 52-49.

Junior Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led the Eagles with 14 points. She also shot perfectly from the free throw line and added seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists to her stat line. Teammate Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) followed close behind, scoring 13 points as she went 5-for-14 from the field
