MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team traveled to the University of Minnesota Morris (11-13, 9-6 UMAC) Wednesday afternoon for a mid-week conference matchup, where they defeated the Cougars by a final score of 75-66. With the victory, UNW improves to 12-12 on the season and 10-5 in UMAC play.
The Eagles struggled to find their groove in the first half, shooting just 28 percent from the floor as UMM built a 28-20 lead heading into halftime.
UNW came back with a strong second half to propel them to a 75-66 victory. Northwestern took the lead for good with a layup by
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) at the 8:32 mark and never looked back, shooting an impressive 56 percent in the half. As a team, the Eagles grabbed 45 rebounds and tallied 13 assists.
Sophomore
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) continued his hot shooting and led all scorers with 23 points, netting 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed 11 rebounds, respectively. Juniors Bazile [16 points],
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) [13 points] and
Brady Bellefeuille (Frazee, Minn./Frazee) [11 points] all had strong showings as they each hit double-figures in their point totals.
