ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team welcomed North Central University to the Ericksen Center for Saturday UMAC action. Strong play from a trio of Eagles led UNW to a 56-44 final win over the Rams.
Northwestern improves to 2-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference action. North Central falls to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in the UMAC.
The Eagles, who have bested the Rams in 59 out of 60 all-time meetings, put together a strong start – orchestrating a 20-12 first quarter.
At the half, the Eagles held a 12 point lead and sustained it throughout second half play thanks to 67% shooting in the fourth quarter.
Senior
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led Northwestern with 18 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field. Berglund picked up four steals in the game and now sits in fourth place on the all-time career steals list at Northwestern with 270.
Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) had a dominant outing, making eight of 11 shots and pulling down seven boards. Crenshaw's 16 points is her season-best.
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) finished with a team-best 10 rebounds.
Freshman guard
Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley), who leads the Eagles in three-point shooting on the year (21 made on 46% shooting), finished with 14 points. Lund shot five of six from the charity stripe.
Northwestern will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12 when they travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. against the Storm who enter the match-up with a 2-7 overall record.
