ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hit the road to take on Crown College in Wednesday night Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The Eagles held the Storm to single digit scoring in three of the quarters to secure a 76-35 final victory.
Northwestern improves to 3-6 on the year and 2-1 in conference action as Crown falls to 2-8 this season. The Eagles extend their all-time record against Crown to 71-3 and had won 57 straight prior to a one-point loss last season.
Northwestern put together a strong first half, holding the Storm to just 14 points. The Eagles shot 54% and scored a season-best 38 points to secure a 24 point lead at the half. UNW continued to display consistent play in the second half, scoring 24 points in the third quarter alone and extending the lead to 41.
Northwestern outrebounded Crown, 48-31 and dished out 27 assists to the Storm's 6.
Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) led UNW offensively, finishing with 17 points on an impressive eight of nine shooting from the field.
Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) added 14 points and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) also recorded double-digit scoring for Northwestern. Landers added 10 points, five blocks, four rebounds and three assists.
Freshman guard
Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) led all players with six assists on the night.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, Dec. 14 when they travel to Grinnell, Iowa to take on the Pioneers. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and can be watched online via
live stats and
webcast. Grinnell enters the match-up with a 3-6 overall record.
