Macalester Second Half Comeback Too Much for Eagles

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed Macalester College to the Ericksen Center for Tuesday night action. The Eagles put together a strong first half to lead by 10 at intermission, but the Scots came roaring back – shooting 61% from the field in the final 20 minutes to clinch a 75-71 final win.

Both teams move to 2-2 on the year. The Eagles lead the all-time series with Macalester, 16-6 and prior to tonight's game had won 10 straight against the Scots.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 15-6 lead and held it for the first 31 minutes of action. The first lead change occurred at the 9:15 mark in the second half and was followed by six more over the next four minutes. With one minute remaining, the score was tied at 68-68 following a pair of clutch free-throws by Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area).

The Scots connected on a three-pointer and made all four free throw shots down the stretch to clinch the final win.
