ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team welcomed Macalester College to the Ericksen Center for Tuesday night action. The Eagles put together a strong first half to lead by 10 at intermission, but the Scots came roaring back – shooting 61% from the field in the final 20 minutes to clinch a 75-71 final win.
Both teams move to 2-2 on the year. The Eagles lead the all-time series with Macalester, 16-6 and prior to tonight's game had won 10 straight against the Scots.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 15-6 lead and held it for the first 31 minutes of action. The first lead change occurred at the 9:15 mark in the second half and was followed by six more over the next four minutes. With one minute remaining, the score was tied at 68-68 following a pair of clutch free-throws by
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area).
The Scots connected on a three-pointer and made all four free throw shots down the stretch to clinch the final win.
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) led Northwestern with 21 points and pulled down five boards.
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) added 20 points on four of eight shooting from beyond the arc.
Michael Moore (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) dished out four assists.
Northwestern will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27 when they travel to River Falls, Wis. Tipoff against the UW-River Falls Falcons is slated for 7 p.m.
