Second Half Comeback Falls Short in Eagles Loss to Augsburg

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hosted Augsburg University in Saturday afternoon action at the Ericksen Center.

The Eagles fell in final scoring, 69-57 as they move to 1-3 on the year. Augsburg secures a 2-0 start, leading the all-time head to head series with Northwestern, 22-16.

After committing nine turnovers in first quarter action, the Eagles trailed 15-6. In an evenly matched second quarter, the deficit stood at 30-21 at the half.

The Eagles came out firing following intermission, forcing an Augsburg timeout early in the third quarter. Northwestern's dynamic play continued – sparked by consistent offense from Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield). The third quarter was capped off by a last second three-pointer from freshman Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) as the Eagles cut the Auggie lead to four points (46-42).

The fourth quarter looked to be heading in the right direction after a layup from Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) drew Northwestern within two. The hot-shooting Auggies were too much to handle, however, as they connected on four shots from beyond the arc to regain the definitive lead.

Northwestern was led in scoring by Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) with 15 points on four of eight shooting from the field and seven of eight from the charity stripe. Berglund added three assists, three steals and two blocks.

Kelsea Lund (Madison, Minn./La qui Parle Valley) added 12 points for the Eagles, all on shots from beyond the arc. Lund leads Northwestern in three-point shooting this season – having recorded 10 makes through four games.

Miranda Crenshaw (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) pulled down a game-high and season-best 16 rebounds.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20 when they host Macalester College in another UMAC vs. MIAC showdown. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30.
