NORTHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team traveled to play fellow Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) member, Northland College (1-9-1, 0-6-0 UMAC) Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Lumberjacks 3-1 and improve to 4-7-1 (2-4-1 UMAC).
Northwestern fired the first shot only 27 seconds into the game. Northland scored first and took their only lead of the game. Tying the game for UNW was
Miguel Martinez-Urrutia (Anoka, Minn./Anoka). His shot set up by
Tyler Hurley (Bloomington, Minn./Eden Prairie) successfully found the back of the net.
Freshman
Grecia Burns-Cadotte (Minneapolis, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) knocked one in with just over 10 minutes to go in the first half. His unassisted goal gave UNW the 2-1 lead.
Not long after,
Austin Myers (Chester, Virg./Thomas Dale) got on the board with a goal, assisted by Martinez-Urrutia. The Eagles maintained the 3-1 lead through intermission.
During the second half, Northwestern continued their strong play on both sides of the field while sustaining the 3-1 lead. The team pelted a total of 25 shots (16 SOG) during the contest.
Stat leaders for the contest were Martinez-Urrutia (3 S, 1 SOG, 1 A, 1 G), Burns-Cadotte (4 S, 3 SOG, 1 G), Hurley (4 S, 4 SOG, 1 A), and Myers (2 S, 2 SOG, 1 G).
