MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team traveled to take on the University of Minnesota – Morris Cougars (5-7-3, 5-1-2 UMAC) in a mid-week conference contest. The Eagles fell in the matchup by a final score of 2-1 in overtime. With the loss, UNW moves to 4-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
The beginning of the game appeared that it would be a shootout. Northwestern was first on the board with
Tyler McGeough (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) netting a goal, assisted by
Corbin Munger (Austin, Minn./Austin), just over five minutes into the game. The Cougars evened the score not less than 20 seconds, scoring a goal of their own. The game was tied 1-1 heading into halftime.
Both offensives continued firing shots in the second half, but neither team was able to score another goal. The game entered overtime with the score remaining 1-1. The Eagles outshot the Cougars 2-1, but one shot was all Morris needed. The Cougars scored the game-winning under 10 minutes into the overtime period.
For their next contest, the Eagles will host St. Thomas Friday, October 12. For more information, fans can visit
