Eagles Defeat Crown in Straight Sets

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern traveled to Crown College to take on the Storm in their final regular season UMAC road match-up. The Eagles defeated Crown in straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-8.
 
With the win, Northwestern improved to 21-7 overall and 14-1 in the UMAC. The Eagles will take on the University of St. Thomas on Friday before hosting Martin Luther on Saturday in their final regular season league match. The Eagles have locked up at least a share of the conference title, and Saturday's match will determine the conference final results.
 
The Storm falls to 3-24 overall, 2-13 in conference play. Northwestern put together a team attack average of .421 in the match and posted 48 kills to Crown's 15.

A trio of Eagles garnered double-digit kill totals on the night. Senior Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) led the way with 12 kills, hitting .458 and adding eight digs. Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) each finished with 11 kills. Fuglestad hit a team-best .526.

Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACCRAY) added 40 assists in the quick three-setter. Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) led the way on the defensive end with 12 digs.

Northwestern will return to action on Friday, Oct. 26. First serve is slated for 7 PM at the Tommies Schoenecker Arena. Follow the Eagles online this season at www.unweagles.com
