ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern traveled down Snelling to take on the University of St. Thomas in the Eagles final non-conference regular season match-up. The Tommies entered the match ranked No. 4 in the Central Region. The Eagles fell in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-15.
Northwestern drops to 21-8 overall as they prepare to take on Martin Luther College in Saturday play. A win will give the Eagles an outright conference title. Saturday's match will also mark Senior Day for the Northwestern squad.
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville),
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) and
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) will be honored for their contributions to the UNW program.
The Tommies improve to 22-7 on the year and will face no. 13 UW-Eau Claire in Saturday action. UST was led by Audrey Erickson with 11 kills.
A pair of Eagles led the offensive attack as
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) finished with nine kills apiece. Halvorsen also added 10 digs on the night.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACCRAY) dished out 30 assists, while
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) led the way on the defensive end with 11 digs.
