ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team (10-7, 7-2 UMAC) built a 38-12 halftime lead en route to earning a dominant 70-38 win over visiting North Central University (4-11, 1-8 UMAC) Saturday evening inside the Ericksen Center.
The Eagles controlled the game early, leading 15-5 after the opening frame. After UNW scored 23 second-quarter points, they tacked on 32 points in the second half to run away with the contest.
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) drilled four triples and finished 7-of-9 from the floor to finish with a game-high 18 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) continued her strong play, netting 14 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and
Megan Stubbs (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Grand View Christian ) also reached double figures as they each chipped in 11 points. Stubbs knocked down three triples, while Berglund tallied seven helpers.
UNW shot better than 43 percent from the floor and played strong defense on the other end, holding NCU to a 28.3 shooting percentage.
