ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team cruised to a 79-59 victory over conference foe Minnesota Morris Wednesday night inside the Ericksen Center. With the win, UNW improves to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in league play, while the Cougars drop to 5-11 and 5-3 in the UMAC.
The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders, building a 20-15 lead after first before outscoring UMM 22-11 in the second quarter to take a 42-26 lead into the locker room. After an evenly played third, UNW tacked on 17 more in the fourth to take the game, 79-59.
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) couldn't miss, as the senior had a career night, netting 22 points, including a pair of triples. She also pulled down nine boards and posted two steals. Three others joined her in double figures, led by
Alex Peterson (St. Paul, Minn. /Como Park)'s 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) chipped in 14 and
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) drilled two 3-pointers en route to finishing with 12 points. Berglund and Landers each posted three steals.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from long range, while holding the Cougars to a 38.2 shooting percentage.
