Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led a group of four University of Northwestern women's basketball players in double figures Saturday, as the Eagles rolled to a 73-52 win at Martin Luther College (4-11, 2-5 UMAC). With the victory, UNW betters its season record to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in league play.
The Eagles didn't waste any time, racing out to an 18-5 lead after the first frame. After MLC put together a strong second quarter, UNW outscored the home team 21-12 in the third to build a 55-37 advantage and never looked back, cruising to a 73-52 win.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) continued her strong play, as the junior poured in 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting. She came up just one rebound shy of a double-double, while also dishing out four assists and swiping five steals.
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) had a strong outing, netting 15 points and grabbing eight boards on the block.
Alex Peterson (St. Paul, Minn. /Como Park) (13) and
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) (12) also reached double figures.
The hot-shooting Eagles hit 53.6 percent of their shots from the floor and 43.8 percent of their shots from long range. UNW's defensive pressure held MLC to a 25 shooting percentage from the floor.
