ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team [4-2-2, 3-0-1 UMAC] battled the College of St. Scholastica [6-2, 4-0 UMAC] in its homecoming contest Saturday at Reynolds Field. The Saints won the hard-fought match, 3-1, over the Eagles.
Taking on the first half, CCS wasted no time as they knocked in two goals by the 16-minute mark to take a 2-0 lead. UNW contested with the best of their abilities, but struggled to find the net on the period. St. Scholastica scored their third at the 44' to take a 3-0 advantage into the intermission break.
The second frame was well-contested, as both teams were unable to tally a goal until the final moments of play. With two minutes remaining on the period, Northwestern's
Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) buried the team's lone goal, scoring off of a skillful header shot. Freshman
Lucas McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) helped out in the action, as the claimed the assist.
Though the Eagles battled to the very end, the Saints notched the win, 3-1.
On the contest, UNW totaled eight shots [3 SOG], while CSS recorded 15 shots [12 SOG].
Northwestern's game leaders on the day's competition were Donat [2S / 1 SOG / 1G],
Jakob Walther (Milan, MI./Milan) [2S / 1 SOG], and
Austin Myers (Chester, Virg./Thomas Dale) [1S / 1 SOG]. On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) caught an impressive nine saves for the Eagles.
