MANKATO, MINN. – In Wednesday's conference matchup against Bethany Lutheran College [1-10, 0-6 UMAC], the University of Northwestern men's soccer team captured a 2-1 victory over the Knights. With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-3-2 overall and rest second [4-1-1] in UMAC play.
From the opening whistle, both teams battled each other with strong efforts. BLC found the net first, as the home team tapped one in at the 36-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.
UNW answered back quickly, as
Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) scored at the 37' to level the score 1-1.
With the score matched [1-1] at the halftime break, Northwestern was able to outshoot Bethany Lutheran, 11-9.
At the 64',
Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) came up big, as he knocked in the second and final goal of the game, allowing the Eagles to soar to a 2-1 victory over the home team.
On the contest, UNW totaled 15 shots [11 SOG], while BLC finished with 15 shots [7 SOG].
Northwestern's game leaders on the day's competition were Donat [5S / 4 SOG / 1G], Hintz [2S / 2 SOG / 1G],
Lucas McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) [3S / 1 SOG], and
Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) [2S / 2 SOG]. On the defensive end, Freshman
Kyle Briggs (Ypsilanti, MI./Milan) guarded the goalie box the entire 90 minutes, collecting six saves for the purple and gold.
