ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team contended in a hard-fought battle against Hamline University (1-1-0) Saturday evening at Reynolds Field. The Eagles clinched a 3-2 comeback win over the visiting Pipers, improving to 1-0-1 on the season.
Opening up the match, HU took an early 1-0 lead, scoring at the 6:30 window. Though UNW gave their best efforts throughout the half, the home team struggled to find the net before heading into the intermission break.
Taking on the second half with a strong attack, Northwestern's
Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) buried a ball right into the top left corner of the net, equalizing the score 1-1. Hamline then answered back quickly, taking a 2-1 advantage with 36:00 left in regulation.
With the clock winding down,
Jacob Limmex (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) managed to hammer another one in for the Eagles, making it a 2-2 tie game with 8:00 remaining. UNW's momentum continued, as
Joshua Hintz (New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View) knocked in his first-ever collegiate goal with six minutes left on the ticker, allowing Northwestern to run away with a 3-2 win over Hamline.
The Eagles capped off the night's competition with a grand total of seven shots (4 SOG), while the Pipers recorded 25 shots (15 SOG).
On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) recorded an impressive 10 saves on the evening battle.
