Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Northwestern Tops Morris In 2-1 Overtime Thiller

MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team [3-1-2, 2-0-1 UMAC] took on the University of Minnesota Morris [2-3-1, 0-0-1 UMAC] in a mid-day battle Tuesday. Putting together an outstanding performance, the Eagles secured a 2-1 overtime victory over the Cougars.

Throughout the first half, both teams traded possessions up until the 14' mark when UMM tapped in the first goal of the game to boost a 1-0 lead. Though UNW gave their best efforts throughout the remainder of the period, the home team took the 1-0 advantage into the locker room at the halftime break.

Shifting momentum in the second half, Northwestern's Nathan Olin (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) equalized the scoreboard, 1-1, as he knocked in a header goal at the 69' minute. Teammate Jakob Walther (Milan, MI./Milan) helped in the action, as he tabbed the assist.

As the ticker wound down, neither team would score again, sending the hard-hitting match into overtime play.

Forty-five seconds into the extra period, the Eagles were able to secure the victory, as the winning tally was deemed an own goal.

On the day's competition, Northwestern totaled 17 shots [9 SOG], which outshined Morris's 16 shots [5 SOG].

UNW's stat leaders on the afternoon contest were Olin [1S / 1 SOG / 1G], Josiah Donat (Elk River, Minn./Washtenaw Christian Academy) [6S / 1SOG], Lucas McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) [2S / 2 SOG], and Tyler Hurley (Bloomington, Minn./Eden Prairie) [3S / 1 SOG]. Guarding the cage the entire game, Goalkeeper Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) gathered four saves, respectively.
