Eagles Fall to Conference-Leading Saints

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern baseball team (14-20, 4-6 UMAC) fell twice Saturday to the College of St. Scholastica Saints (23-7, 12-0 UMAC). The Eagles lost game one 17-0 and then lost 16-3 in game two both via run-rule to the conference-leading Saints.

Game One
The Saints scored 15 runs in the fifth inning after reaching base with 13 straight hitters to start the inning.  Micah Williams (Gulfport, Miss. /Christian Collegiate Academy) was tagged with the loss and then Nick Pilz (Stacy, Minn./North Branch), Daniel Stratton (Lucerne Valley, Calif. /Lucerne Valley), and Tori Holt (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) followed. 

Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ), Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian), Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau), Karr Fager, and Max Barthel (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) all reached once during the game after the Eagles failed to record a hit through the first four innings.

Game Two
It started more promising when the Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but then Scholastica quickly tied it in the top of the fourth and then scored eight more in the top of the fifth to take an 11-3 lead.

In the third, the Eagles scored after Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) doubled home Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) and then Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) doubled home Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Sutterer. 

Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) was 3-for-3 on the day and Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) were the only other Eagles to get a hit.

Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) got the start and took the loss before Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian), Jake Franzen, and Henry Waage (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) pitched.  Ehnstrom fell to 6-3 on the season.

The Eagles next play at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled at 1:30 pm.  Their next home game is on Saturday, May 6 against Martin Luther College with first pitch also scheduled for 1:30 pm.  To find out more information about the baseball program visit unweagles.com.
