Baseball Suffers Pair of Losses at Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern baseball team (14-22, 4-8 UMAC) dropped a pair of games on the road Wednesday at Minnesota Morris (17-17, 11-3 UMAC). The Eagles fell 7-0 in game one before losing game two in heartbreaking fashion, 6-5.

Game One
The Cougars got a complete-game four-hit shutout from Michael Dockendorf, taking the opener 7-0 after the game was halted for an hour long rain delay in the second inning.

Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) has been a welcomed addition back in the UNW lineup as the senior was responsible for two of the Eagles' four hits at the dish. Leadoff hitter Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) and Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) accounted for the other two hits.

Jake Franzen went the distance for the Eagles, as he surrendered five earned runs on 14 hits. Franzen fanned two, while not issuing a walk.

Game Two
UNW built itself a 5-2 lead through five innings in game two and held UMM scoreless over the next three innings, but the host Cougars plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extras. Minnesota Morris pushed the game-winning run across in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the walk-off win.

Clinging to a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third, Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) delivered a two-run single to cushion UNW's lead. Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) contributed an RBI single in the fourth before Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) drove in a RBI groundout in the fifth. Reinhart finished the contest with a pair of hits, while Ehnstrom and Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) drew two walks each.

Reinhart suffered the loss on the bump, coming in to throw the 10th. Henry Waage (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) got the start and went 4.1 innings. Micah Williams (Gulfport, Miss. /Christian Collegiate Academy) was sharp in his relief outing, tossing 2.2 innings of no-hit ball.

The Eagles will close out their home slate Saturday when Martin Luther College visits Reynolds Field for a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is slated for 1:30 p.m. Fans can find more information on the baseball program at www.unweagles.com.
