Eagles Fall On The Road At Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern baseball team (14-18, 4-4 UMAC) came up short in a pair of high-scoring affairs with the Northland College Lumberjacks (6-14, 3-3 UMAC) Saturday. The Lumberjacks won game one, 14-6, and then took game two, 22-14.

Game One
The Eagles jumped ahead 2-1 in the top of the third when Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) hit a two-run homer. The Lumberjacks retook the lead in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) had three hits on the day and drew a walk and Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) was 3-for-3 with two walks.

Jake Franzen got the start and gave up three runs over 4.2 innings. Daniel Stratton (Lucerne Valley, Calif. /Lucerne Valley) came on and pitched the next 2.0 innings, before Ben Skolbekken (Andover, Minn./Anoka Ramsey CC) finished the game.

Game Two
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first. UNW's first seven batters reached base. The Lumberjacks took a lot of that steam away though when they scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. They then added four more in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, the Eagles strung together four straight singles and a walk to tie the game at eight. The Lumberjacks scored three more times though in the bottom of the frame. In the top of the fourth, the Eagles again rallied to tie the score at 11. Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) led off with a single and then Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) reached base. Ehnstrom later scored on a wild pitch and Michaelson and David Beer (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) scored after Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) reached on an error by the Lumberjacks' first baseman.

The Lumberjacks kept adding on though and put up a six spot in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles scored three more times in the top of the eighth after Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) doubled home Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) and Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau). Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) then singled home Sutterer to make the score 20-14. Northland added two more in the bottom of the eighth.

Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) led the way at the plate, smacking four hits, while Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) and Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) tallied three apiece. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits during the game. Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) got the start for the Eagles, Henry Waage (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) followed up with three solid innings of work, Nick Pilz (Stacy, Minn./North Branch) came in for 2.2 innings of his action and then Nick Fladagar pitched the final frame.
