ST. PAUL – Backed by a pair of strong outings from its starting pitchers, the University of Northwestern baseball team (5-9) posted two wins Saturday afternoon over visiting Presentation College (7-15) at Reynolds Field. The Eagles won 2-1 in walk-off fashion in game one before picking up an 11-1 victory in the series finale.
Game One
Northwestern was first to get on the board in the bottom of the second when
Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) singled to right field, scoring
Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian). The two foes went scoreless over the next three innings before the Saints scratched a run across in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 1-1. With the game locked up in the bottom of the seventh, senior
Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) delivered a pinch-hit RBI single that plated Reinart to give UNW the walk-off win.
Micah Williams (Gulfport, Miss. /Christian Collegiate Academy) was outstanding, as the left-hander went the distance on the mound, surrendering six hits and not allowing an earned run. The freshman fanned a pair en route to earning his first collegiate win.
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) and Reinhart both finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense.
Game Two
Thanks to
Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin)'s gem on the mound and a six-run first inning, the Eagles cruised to an 11-1 win in game two.
Ehnstrom allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings of work. The right-hander was efficient, throwing just 83 pitches in the complete-game effort.
Carter Michaelson (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, while also scoring three runs.
Christian Halbur (Richfield, Minn./Homeschool) drove in five runs, while
Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls),
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ), Bradley Spender and
Cedric Cavazos (Chicago, Ill./Buffalo Grove) all contributed a pair of hits.
