ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team made a strong second half push, but it wasn't enough, as the Eagles fell to Minnesota Morris (17-5, 12-1), 60-54, Friday night in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) clash inside the Ericksen Center. UNW drops to 14-8 overall and 9-4 in league play.
After the Eagles opened the game on a 10-1 run, the Cougars stormed back and outscored UNW 19-7 in the second frame to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room. UNW put together a strong final 20 minutes and pulled within four with 2:50 remaining thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and
Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle), but UMM answered with a trey of its own and hung on to take the game, 60-54.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led a balanced attack for the Eagles, as the junior scored 13 points, while also grabbing eight boards.
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) also reached double figures, contributing 12 points.
The Eagles shot 35 percent from the floor and 20 percent from long range, while the Cougars hit 38 percent of their shots from the floor and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.
UNW will host Crown College Saturday in its final regular season home game of the season. Fans can follow the action on Senior Day at
