ST. PAUL – On the eve of Senior Day, the University of Northwestern men's basketball team received a strong outing from all five seniors, as they all reached double figures in UNW's 88-63 win over Minnesota Morris (12-10, 7-6) inside the Ericsken Center. The Eagles improve to 16-6 overall and 11-2 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
In a fast-paced first half, the Eagles shot lights out to take a 50-46 lead into the locker room. The Eagles kept their foot on the gas and tightened up their defense, outscoring the Cougars 38-17 in the second frame to secure the conference win.
All five seniors compiled double-digit scoring marks, as
Cody Sprenger (Grey Eagle, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) led the way with 18 points, followed by
Aaron Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) with 16,
Peter Maring (Harris, Minn./Cambridge Christian) with 15,
Porter Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) with 13 and
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) with 12. Maring also pulled down a game-high 11 boards to notch a double-double. Youngberg and Morrell hit three treys apiece.
The Eagles continued to shoot the ball well in the second half, finishing the night hitting 49.3 percent of their shots from the floor, 40 percent from the 3-point range and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe.
Northwestern held UMM's CD Douglas – the conference's leading scoring – to just 11 points.
