ST. PAUL – The script couldn't have been more perfect for the University of Northwestern men's basketball team (17-6, 12-2) on Senior Night, as all five UNW seniors reached double figures in the Eagles' 85-60 win over Crown College (8-15, 5-9) Saturday. It was the second-straight night all five have compiled double-digit scoring totals. With the win, the Eagles also clinch at least a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title.
Northwestern used a late surge at the end of the first half to extend their lead to 43-30 heading into the locker room. The hot-shooting Eagles continued to knock down shots in the second half – shooting 52.78 percent from the floor – en route to taking home the dominant win.
Cody Sprenger (Grey Eagle, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) and
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) led the way, pouring in 16 points apiece.
Peter Maring (Harris, Minn./Cambridge Christian) followed with another strong outing, chipping in 13 points and pulling down nine boards.
Porter Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) contributed 13 points, while
Aaron Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) added 12 to aid the offensive effort.
UNW hit 52.9 percent of its shots from the floor, while holding Crown to a 36.2 shooting percentage on the defensive end.
The Eagles will close out the regular season next weekend on the road at Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College. More information can be found at
