MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a 59-51 win at North Central University (2-3, 0-2) Saturday. The Eagles used a strong second half push to move to 5-4 overall on the year.
Trailing 28-24 at the break, UNW poured in 35 second-half points and held NCU to 23 to secure the victory.
It was
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) again leading the Eagles in the scoring department, as the senior cashed in on 7-of-14 field goal attempts en route to finishing with 17 points. She also grabbed five boards and posted four steals.
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) also reached double figures, as she netted 11 points, while dishing out four assists.
Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle) also racked up four helpers, while
Rio Landers (Grand Meadow, Minn./Grand Meadow) pulled down five rebounds.
UNW shot 45.3 percent (24-for-53) from the floor, while holding NCU to under 30 percent from the field.
