Berglund Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Win Over Crown

ST. PAUL – University of Northwestern's Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) eclipsed 1,000 career points as the Eagles topped Crown College (4-6, 0-2), 64-55, Wednesday night inside the Ericksen Center to improve to 3-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on the year and 6-4 overall.

After a high-scoring opening frame, neither team found its groove in the second quarter as UNW outscored Crown 8-7 in the second to take a 30-21 lead into the break. After putting up 19 in the third, Northwestern held off a fourth quarter rally by the Storm to take the contest, 64-55.

Berglund continued her strong play, pouring in a game-high 27 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle) also hit double figures, netting 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and cashing in 4-of-4 free throw attempts.

Northwestern shot 45.5 percent (25-55) from the floor, while hitting 9-of-12 (75 percent) at the line.

The Eagles will continue their homestand Saturday when Augsburg visits the Ericksen Center. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. Fans can find more information at unweagles.com or by following @unwmbb on Twitter.
