ST. PAUL - The No. 12 Northwestern Eagles volleyball team showed no signs of playoff jitters on Wednesday, as they cruised to a convincing sweep of Martin Luther inside the Ericksen Center. UNW rolled to a 25-13 win in set one, survived a late MLC rally to win set two, 25-19, and closed out the match with a 25-14 set three win.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) spearheaded the Eagles' efforts, pounding 17 kills to go along with eight digs and the team's lone ace. Mariah Halvorsen followed suit with 12 kills, and Kaylee Fuglestad six.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) (20 digs) and Jenay Fuglestad (five blocks) led the way defensively for UNW, while
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) and
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) dished out 20 and 13 assists, respectively.
The Eagles will host Minnesota-Morris in the UMAC Championship Game on Saturday at 7 PM, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. For more, stay tuned to unweagles.com and follow @unwvb on Twitter.
